First woman to dive to lowest point on Earth
Kathy Sullivan (68), becomes the first American woman to walk in Space and dive into the lowest spot in the Ocean. Geologist and former NASA Astronaut, Kathy made history by diving into the known deepest point in the ocean The Challenger Deep. The Mariana Trench is located in the Western Pacific Ocean about 200 kilometers east of the Mariana Islands. Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean is believed to be the deepest underwater trench on Earth. On June 7, 2020, she successfully voyaged 35,810 foot deep into the ocean floor using a Deep Sea Vehicle called Limiting Factor for 4 hours to descend, 2 hours to explore the ocean, and 4 hours to ascend back to the ship. She was also Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere (USCOA) and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). An adventurous world record accomplishment and a role model for all women.
