 World’s First Licensed Armless Pilot

Jessica Cox is the first licensed armless pilot as well as the first armless black-belt in the American Taekwondo Association.

Jessica Cox first flew via Wright Flight in 2004 in a single engine airplane. On October 10, 2008, after three years of training, Jessica earned her pilot’s license and is qualified to fly a light-sport aircraft at altitudes of 10,000 feet. She earned her flight training through an Able Flight scholarship and was soloed under the supervision of Parrish Traweek.

Cox’s Sport Pilot License is for an ERCO 415-C Ercoupe licensed as a light sport aircraft by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Ercoupe was made without rudder pedals, produced in the 1940’s. Then, through the yokes the rudder is attached to the ailerons. This unique design allows Cox to fly the aircraft while the other foot controls the throttle and one foot controlling the yokes.

By the time she was born, Jessica never gave up on her dreams with a very unfair hand. She never allowed her worries to deter her from the goals that Jessica wished to achieve.

Cox serves as a motivational speaker and delivered her message in 20 countries.2014. In 2015, Cox published an autobiographical self-help book, Disarm Your Limits. to inspire people through the lessons she has learned in her life to conquer their own obstacles.
