Sanna Mirella Marin (born 16 November 1985) is a Finnish politician who has been serving as Finland’s Prime minister since 10 December 2019. A Social Democrat, she has been a Member of the Finnish Parliament since 2015 and served as Minister of Transport and Communications from 6 June 2019 to 10 December 2019.
Despite Antti Rinne’s resignation from his position as prime minister, on 8 December 2019 the Social Democratic Party chose Marin as their new leader nominee. At the age of 34, Marin was both the youngest serving state leader in the world at the time and the youngest ever Prime Minister of Finland.
Marin became head of the city council in Tampere in 2012, at the age of just 27, which has a population of about 230,000.While already a member of Tampere City Council, Marin was elected in 2015 to represent the Pirkanmaa region as an MP for the Social Democratic Party. She also held the position of Minister of Transport and Communications.
